The special measuring probe RI02 is used for measuring the surface tension with the ring method where only small sample volumes are available. Measurements with volumes as of 1 mL are possible thanks to the reduced diameter of the ring.

Like the standard RI01 ring, the RI02 is also made of a platinum-iridium alloy so its combines ideal wettability with the necessary metal hardness. Its design with only two contact points between the ring and the shaft and its shape accuracy ensure a high level of precision. A special vessel for small sample volumes is included in the scope of delivery as well as a high-quality protective box in which it can be safely stored.

The glass cuvettes SC01 and SC02 accommodate the bulk phase when measuring the interfacial tension using the Pendant Drop method. When measuring surface tension, the cuvettes screen the dosed drop against air currents. With the smaller cuvette SC01 (top picture), this is also ensured by an additional cover which additionally prevents the drop evaporating. The smaller cuvette SC01 can be used when taking measurements in a temperature controlled chamber for measuring interfacial temperature as a function of temperature.

Because of its larger design, the SC02 (bottom picture) is particularly suitable for measuring the contact angle in the bulk liquid. Both cuvettes are made of high-quality optical glass. As a result, drops are displayed without distortion, thus guaranteeing an accurate analysis of the drop shape.

The SH0601 sample holder enables tensiometric measurements of the contact angle of plate-shaped solids using the Wilhelmy method. The sample holder is inserted into the tensiometer force sensor adapter in one quick step.

The clip of the holder presses the sample against the pressing surface arranged exactly horizontally to the shaft, so that the sample is immersed in an exact vertical position during measurement. Whereby the sample is positioned on the horizontal upper edge of the pressing surface and thus straightly aligned.

In order to carry out tensiometric measurements of the contact angle on foil and film samples using the Wilhelmy method, these samples are fixed firmly with the SH0602 special sample holder. The wide pressing surface of the clip that is arranged level with the shaft ensures the sample is firmly fixed and simplifies straight and vertical positioning of the sample during immersion in the test liquid.

We have developed the SH0620 sample holder for measuring the contact angle on packed or bundled fibers using the Washburn method. The aluminum tube is quickly and simply equipped with a filter paper base and filled with the fiber samples. The accurate force sensor of the tensiometer measures the increase in mass with respect to time during adsorption to the fibers and the contact angle is calculated from the result.

The matching filter paper SH0621 is available from us in sets of 100 filters.

The SH0640 measuring probe enables the analysis of the sedimentation speed of particles in a dispersion. After thorough mixing with the integrated stirrer of the Force Tensiometer – K100, the particles sink into the inverted hollow cone of the measuring probe. The force sensor of the instrument measures the increase in mass accurately and time-dependently.

The SH0650 measuring probe is used to analyze the penetration resistance of a sediment against a solid mass. This involves the software-controlled movement of the sediment upwards against the solid stainless steel cone of the measuring probe. The force sensor of the Force Tensiometer – K100 registers the sediment resistance that opposes the weight force. The measurement curve provides information about the density and solidity of the sediment.

The SH0810 sample holder enables measurements of the contact angle on powders and pigments using the Washburn method. The glass sample tube can be equipped with a filter paper base using a clamping ring quickly and simply and then filled with the sample. It is easy to check the height and evenness of the filling in the transparent tube. The sample holder is attached to the SH0811 force sensor adapter, which must be ordered separately, in a matter of seconds.

One set of matching filter paper is included and also available from us in sets of 100 filters with the designation SH0621. Spare glass tubes with the designation SH0822 can also be ordered.

The SH0820 Washburn sorption cell for contact angle measurements on powders and pigments is made of stainless steel and specially designed for maximum reproducibility of sample preparation. The bottom of the cell is fitted with a filter paper, followed by the insertion of the provided sorption glass tube. Finally, a cap is screwed onto the cell and presses the tube against the cell's bottom, keeping the paper filter absolutely fixed. With this method, the pressure on the filter from below when immersing the powder-filled tube cannot influence the measurement. Powder wetting analysis can be even more accurate when combining the SH0820 Washburn sorption cell with our separately available preparation set SH0824.    

The SH0811 force sensor adapter is additionally required for using the sorption cell SH0820. One set of matching filter paper is included and also available from us in sets of 100 filters with the designation SH0823. Spare glass tubes with the designation SH0822 can also be ordered.

Our preparation set SH0824 is a helpful tool for preparing the Washburn sorption tube and packing the powder sample reproducibly, which is important for obtaining reliable contact angle results. The set consists of a fitted shape for inserting the powder-filled Washburn cell SH0820 and a plunger for compressing the sample.

The shape has a slightly dished base so the filter base is pressed into the dish and curves in a reproducible manner. In this way, air bubbles, which could influence the measurement, do not adhere on immersion.

The plunger compresses the powder reproducibly without bodily force and only as a result of its inherent weight. The mass can be flexibly matched to the particular sample characteristics, as with a dumbbell, by fitting up to four discs, each weighing 500 g.

We have developed the SH0910 aluminum sample holder for measuring the contact angle on powders and pigments using the Washburn method. The easy to clean sample tube with a perforated base is to be equipped with a filter paper base, filled with the sample and the holder, within seconds, hung in the respective force sensor adaptor. The matching filter paper SH0711 is available from us in sets of 100 filters.

The SH0912 glass sample holder can be used as an alternative to the SH0910 aluminum sample holder for measuring the contact angle on powders and pigments using the Washburn method. It is easy to check the height and evenness of the filling in the transparent tube.


We recommend using the easy to clean SH0910 aluminum sample holder for severely soiling samples.

The SH4501 measuring column for foaming with gas flow is the precursor of SH4511. It is as reliable in terms of reproducible foaming and almost as easy to handle. The holder SH4501 is required for measurements with Foam Analysis, the software used for the DFA100 before our universal software ADVANCE took over control.

The SH4503 measuring column holder offers flexible possibilities for measuring foam height using manual foaming methods such as stirring from above or shaking. The sliding holding clamps can easily accommodate measuring columns of varying sizes such as the CY4501 or CY4502. Alternatively you can also use different closed-bottom vessels of virtually any diameter and foot shape that can be clamped into place securely with this holder.

Two different-sized silicone sealing rings for aqueous solutions are included in the scope of delivery of the SH4503. Seals for organic liquids are also available.

The SH4511 measuring column holder has a coupling that quickly connects it to the gas supply of the DFA100 when inserted. The column clicks into position by means of a metal pin, which is a particular advantage for foam structure analysis where the alignment to the camera is important. After that, fixing the column and inserting the holder in the instrument is a matter of seconds, thanks to the simple clamping mechanism and the ergonomic handle of the holder.

The column holder SH4511 is compatible to older column models which were intended for the precursor SH4501. One SH4511 holder is included in the scope of delivery of your DFA100. It is practical to use additional measuring column holders, so that further measurements can be prepared while one measurement is being carried out. Two FI4501 silicone sealing rings for aqueous solutions are included in the scope of delivery of the SH4511. Seals made of other materials for organic liquids are also available.

The plug-in SH4512 column holder enables foaming of the sample with a stirrer. The holder is easily inserted to connect the integrated stirrer motor to the electrical connection of the DFA100. Mounting the stirring head on the embedded shaft is just as quick, as is attaching the measuring column with the aid of two exactly-fitting clamps.

The stirrer is software-controlled, has a speed of up to 8000 rpm and excellent synchronization characteristics thus ensuring a high level of repeatability during foaming. An FI4511 seal made of silicone rubber for aqueous samples and a standard stainless-steel two-bladed stirring head are included in the scope of delivery. Seals for organic liquids and stirring heads with other geometries are also available.

You can use the connector set SP01 in conjunction with the vacuum pump VP01 which we supply:

  • Degassing liquids. The interfacial rheology module and our micro dosing units work even more reliably if no air bubbles can form during the measurement.
  • Drying and cleaning micro dosing units. The dosing unit’s tiny opening can easily be dried or flushed with the help of a vacuum pump.
  • Removing dosed drops when measuring contact angle. Removing analyzed drops enables further drops to be dosed in the camera viewing direction without superimposed drop images interfering with the evaluation.

The lint-free absorbent cotton buds and cloths included in the set ensure that the dosing tip is properly cleaned from the outside. One unit of SP02 is supplied with your picoliter dosing unit.

The SR4501 stirring head is the standard accessory for the SH4512 measuring column holder with stirring device. The stable anti-adhesion coating prevents the foam-forming substances from sticking and enables trouble-free foaming without any interactions with the surface of the stirrer. The stirring head is included in the scope of delivery of the SH4512, but can also be ordered separately.

The suction plate ST01 ensures that a smooth, flat surface is achieved with foils, films and similar samples. This guarantees a reliable and precise measurement of the contact angle on such soft, flexible materials. The wide area of 100 × 100 mm creates space for a large number of dosed drops. A vacuum pump, which is required for operating the plate, can be obtained from us.

The powder sample holder ST03 is a sample table adapter with three depressions for measuring the contact angle on powder beds. The depressions are filled with powder which is then smoothed out resulting in flat surfaces for dosing liquids. The three separate areas enable at least three positions to be analyzed without being affected by adjacent drops, even in the case of absorbent powders. We have designed the special sample holder ST04 for measuring contact angle on foils and paper. The clamping device ensures an ideally smooth, flat surface, even with corrugated and rolled samples. The holder takes samples with a surface area of 80 × 80 mm and a thickness of up to 4 mm.

The fiber holder ST06 enables fibers to be conveniently positioned for measuring the contact angle with picoliter drops. The exactly horizontally clamped sample with a thickness of up to 700 µm can be rotated, thus enabling several measurements to be taken in one position. Unwanted wetting along the fiber by dosed drops is prevented, as the sample does not come into contact with an underlay. When measuring the contact angle on uneven samples, dosing must be carried out on a raised point in order to obtain an analyzable shadow image of the drop. For this purpose, the sample table adapter ST08 has a domed shape, over which the samples are tightened with the help of a magnetic clamping device. Combining with horizontal axes enables several measurements to be made in quick succession by dosing accurately along the crest.

We have developed the sample holder and dosing set ST10 for measuring contact angle in a bulk liquid phase. Gas bubbles (Captive Bubble) or drops are dosed beneath the sample with the help of the set’s special needle and cuvette, e.g. for analyzing hydrogels and highly energetic and structured surfaces. The special holders optimize measurements on contact lenses, films and textiles as well as on rigid samples.

The vacuum table ST3210 has a permeable tabletop through the pores of which samples are drawn homogeneously on a large area of 150 × 220 mm. The table ensures a flat and easy-to-analyze surface when carrying out measurements on films as well as samples with only low elasticity or softness. It can be mounted flexibly on horizontal movement axes or (with DSA100 and DSA30) on a rotation axis. A vacuum pump, which is required for operating the table, can be obtained from us.

We have designed the tabletop ST3271 to optimize sample preparation and surface analysis of wafers. The plate has a slot for positioning, which is compatible with the standard sizes of wafer tips. To facilitate centering the samples, the table surface can be easily adapted to the different standard sizes of wafers as well as other round samples by means of flexibly deployable pins.

The ST3271 wafer tabletop can be placed directly on top of a manual rotation axis PS3271, or on a software-controlled rotation axis PS3270 in order to carry out automated sample analyses.The ideal way to use the wafer table setup lies in combining it with a vacuum table ST3210. The vacuum of this accessory is effective through holes in the wafer tabletop in order to hold the samples firmly in position.

SV13 – Disposable aluminum sample vessel

Liquids that cause severe soiling or that cure can be analyzed trouble-free with the aid of the SV13 disposable sample vessel. The vessel has an outer diameter of 50 mm and can hold 20 mL of a sample. The SV13 is available in sets of 100 vessels.

We also offer a matching adapter that positions the sample vessel centrally in the thermostat jacket and ensures optimum temperature control.

Our sample vessels SV21/SV11/SV01 made of PFTE are used if glass is not suitable as a sample vessel material. Due to the fact that their surfaces are difficult to wet, the PTFE vessels are easy to clean and therefore well suited for liquids that cause severe soiling such as inks, varnishes or adhesives. The PTFE vessels also optimize the analysis of surfactants that adsorb strongly on glass.


The following PTFE vessels are available from us:

  • SV21: vessels with an outer diameter of 70 mm, that are an exact fit for the thermostat jacket of our tensiometers
  • SV11: vessels with an outer diameter of 50 mm for medium sample volumes
  • SV01: special sample vessel for the smallest sample volumes. The SV01 is included in orders for a RI02/RI0902, PL02/PL0902 or PL03/PL0903 special probe, but can also be ordered separately.

We offer matching adapters for the SV11 and SV01 for positioning the sample vessel centrally in the thermostat jacket of the tensiometer.

During measurement the SV26/SV12 cover plates ensure reduced heat exchange with the surroundings as well as constant measuring temperatures with temperature-controlled samples. In addition, the cover plates reduce evaporation of the sample, which in turn optimizes the accuracy of the analysis in the case of long-term measurements and volatile substances.



The following cover plates are available from us:

  • SV26: for sample vessels with a diameter of 70 mm
  • SV12: for sample vessels with a diameter of 50 mm

The SV30/SV20/SV10 fire-proof glass sample vessels are the standard vessels for analyses carried out with our tensiometers. Easy to clean and resistant to most chemicals, they are suitable for virtually all test liquids. The vessels come in different sizes to optimize the measurement of different sample volumes.



The following glass vessels are available from us:

  • SV30: set of 6 sample vessels with an outer diameter of 98 mm (temperature-controlled measurements are possible with the special TJ34 thermostat jacket)
  • SV20: set of 6 standard vessels with an outer diameter of 70 mm, that are an exact fit for the standard thermostat jacket of our tensiometers
  • SV10: set of 6 sample vessels with an outer diameter of 50 mm for medium sample volumes

The precision glass syringe SY20 is used for our manual dosing unit DS3205 or software-controlled dosing units D03211/DO4011 for one liquid. The gas-tightness of the syringe plunger and the Luer-Lock connector ensure that drops are dosed in a controlled manner even with low-viscosity liquids.

With our software-controlled multi-dosing units, the SY22 syringe is responsible for the controlled production of the required drop volume. To this end, the gas-tight syringe plunger is motor driven to force the liquid out of the syringe into the dosing tube. The SY22 is easily fitted to the dosing unit by means of a thread.

Highly foaming samples already start foaming while being filled into the column, which impairs the subsequent measurement. The printed scale on our SY4501 disposable syringe means you can measure the sample quantity exactly and allow it to run down the side of the column slowly and without bubbles. Filling is even simpler with our additionally available long NE4501 stainless steel syringe needle. There are ten SY4501 syringes included in the scope of delivery of the DFA100 and they can be ordered in sets of 25.

The syringe SY3601 can be fitted to many of our manual and software-controlled dosing solutions and can be used for almost all liquids. It is particularly suitable for dosing highly contaminating substances such as adhesives or paints. The Luer connector ensures safe, gas-tight connections to needles and other dosing components. The syringe is supplied in sets of 100.
