FI4501-FI4506 – Sealing rings for different foaming methods and liquids

Suitable sealing rings are required respectively for foaming using gas flow or a stirrer. You can also prepare your measuring instrument for analyses of different types of liquid samples with the choice of the sealing material.

Our range of 50 mm glass filter plates with different pore sizes means you can influence the bubble sizes of your foam and optimize the analysis for different ranges of foamability and foam stability. The material is chemically neutral in contact with almost all liquids. Our optional TO4501 cleaning set also ensures a long service life. The filter plates are compatible with the SH4501 measuring column holder and all measuring columns with an inner diameter of 40 mm.

The filter plates that can be ordered individually have the following pore sizes:

  • FL4501: 100 to 60 µm
  • FL4502: 40 to 100 µm
  • FL4503: 16 to 40 µm (1 piece included in the scope of delivery of the DFA100)
  • FL4504: 10 to 16 µm

For measuring columns with an inner diameter of 20 mm we provide various, mostly chemically neutral glass filter plates with a diameter of 24 mm for the foaming of small sample quantities. You can influence the bubble size with the filters in dependence on their pore size and align the analysis to different ranges of foamability and foam stability. To use one of the filter plates, a PA4504 adapter set is required.


The filter plates that can be ordered individually have the following pore sizes:

  • FL4511: 100 to 160 µm
  • FL4512: 40 to 100 µm
  • FL4513: 16 to 40 µm
  • FL4514: 10 to 16 µm

The use of a FL4520 filter paper is particularly recommended for foaming in the case of severely soiling samples. The filters are available in pack sizes of 100 pieces. The paper is made of chemically pure cellulose, is compatible with our measuring columns with an inner diameter of 40 mm without having to be cut to size and can be used with most liquids. The pore size is 12 to 15 µm, about the same porosity as our FL4504 glass filters.

Use of the paper filter requires two FI4501 sealing rings (included in the scope of delivery of the DFA100) and an additional FI4504 sealing ring.

The wettability of a surface is affected by the climatic ambient conditions. Using the humidity chamber HC10 in combination with a temperature controlled chamber TC30/TC40 enables you to measure contact angles at precisely controlled humidity and temperature.

At temperatures above 50 °C and humidities above 65%, we recommend using the optional insulating hood TC3200 (bottom picture). This hood enables the target humidity to be reached even more quickly and maintained with better stability.

  • Relative humidity (without insulating hood): 15 - 85% at 22 °C, up to 89% at 10 - 15 °C, up to 5% at 70 - 90 °C
  • Time to achieve target value: 20 - 300 s
  • External compressed air supply required (3-6 bar, very dry air). A suitable compressor is available from us.
  • Temperature range between 5 and 90 °C (suitable thermostats are available)

In some cases, such as non-reflecting or uneven samples, the image of the drop does not stand out sufficiently from the background. In order to improve the analysis in such cases, the sample can be additionally illuminated with the help of the cold light source IL10. The flexible swan neck for the lamp and the fine regulation of the luminous intensity enable the direction, angle of incidence and brightness to be adjusted to exactly suit the particular situation.
