Bubble Pressure Tensiometer – BPT Mobile for monitoring surfactant content in cleaning and coating

New PFAS-free bubble pressure capillaries for the entire measuring range

Sustainable, uncoated disposable capillaries made of PP measure even low surface tensions reliably and with high precision.

For the KRÜSS BP100 and BPT Mobile Bubble Pressure Tensiometers, we have developed plastic capillaries made of PP that cover the entire measuring range of the instruments and do not contain any harmful fluorinated organic compounds (PFAS). In terms of precision, the new capillaries are even superior to their fluorinated predecessors.

In addition to pressure measurement and control, the material and design of the capillaries are crucial for measurement accuracy in the bubble pressure method. Above all, no liquid must enter the capillary during measurement, as this will distort the result. In the past, plastic capillaries were coated with a hydrophobic layer to prevent internal wetting. However, this coating contained fluorinated hydrocarbons, which are now rightly banned due to their harmful nature and low degradability, earning them the nickname "forever chemicals."

With our new disposable capillaries, we have solved the problem of internal wetting not chemically, but mechanically with the help of design. This means we can dispense with not only coatings but also with industry-standard fluoropolymers such as PTFE as substitute materials. This makes us particularly sustainable, because on the one hand, fluoroplastics are also ecologically questionable—especially as disposable products—and on the other hand, it is foreseeable that these materials will also have to be replaced and will no longer be permitted in the medium term.

The new disposable capillaries for our BP100 and BPT Mobile Bubble Pressure Tensiometers are now available from us.
