Many questions about foam, one universal approach: The DFA100 Dynamic Foam Analyzer measures the foamability of liquids and the stability of quickly decaying or long lasting foam based on reproducible foaming and height detection. With optional modules operating in parallel, it also measures the liquid content or analyzes the foam structure with regard to bubble size and distribution. The DFA100 supports you in optimizing foam-forming products or helps you to avoid unwanted foam formation.

Applications

  • Firefighting foams

  • Flotation as a method for separating solids

  • Foam prevention for paints and varnishes, process and waste water, or cooling lubricants

  • Foam-inhibiting and foam-reducing agents (anti-foaming agents/defoamers)

  • Foams for washing and cleaning

  • Foams in food and personal care products

  • Surfactant development

Measuring methods

  • Foamability and foam stability using the optically detected height of foam created reproducibly

  • Foam formation behavior of heavily foaming liquids using stirring cycles

  • Optically detected foam bubble sizes and their statistical distribution

  • Moisture and drainage behavior of foam using its electrical conductivity

  • Carrying out a measurement up to 20 consecutive times and displaying the results together

Measuring results

  • Decay curves: total height and volume as well as foam and liquid height and volume at each measured point in time

  • Head retention value (HRV)

  • Maximum foam volume and liquid volume in foam at maximum

  • Optional results for liquid content and foam structure

  • Time values for the reduction of liquid volume in foam and foam volume to 75% and 50% (foam half-life)

Reproducible, precise and process-related measurements

A particular strength of the DFA100 is the exceptional reproducibility of foam height measurements thanks to an accurately controlled foaming process with electronic gas flow or stirrer control. The optical sensor measures the quantity of foam produced and the decay characteristic equally precisely, even with very unstable foams. As a result, the instrument reliably covers the whole spectrum from slow to very fast decaying foams and is thus used to optimize foam creation or prevention. Further possibilities are temperature control up to 90 °C or foaming with externally connected gases such as carbon dioxide.

DYNAMIC FOAM ANALYZER

Scientific characterization of foam

Foam in everyday products as well as technical applications appears in manifold forms and is often produced on purpose, but can also be undesired. Our DFA100 characterizes almost every aspect of foam, putting a wide range of methods into practice with impressive ease of use.

Impressively easy to use

Preparing the measurement and cleaning when finished is especially convenient thanks to a versatile plug-in technique. It even allows one sample to be prepared in the measuring column while another measurement is running. This means more measurements in the same time.

ADVANCE Software

Automatic analysis and powerful evaluation

The simple operation of the instrument goes hand in hand with the intuitive user interface of our ADVANCE software. Easy to create automation programs control the measurement run and allow cyclical repetitions. The synchronous display of all time-related data for foam height, bubble structure, and liquid content is particularly convenient.

YOUR INSTRUMENT'S BRAIN

  • Intuitive software with a workflow-oriented user interface

  • Swift and repeatable analyses thanks to measurement templates and powerful automation functions

  • Result management made easy with clear and comprehensive charts and tables

  • A wide range of results describing foam formation, stability, and decay
