Drops, Dynamics and Durability: Modern Contact Angle Methods for Adhesion Analysis

When it comes to assessing the performance of adhesive formulations, surface free energy plays a key role in critical parts of the adhesion process, namely the initial spreading, and final adhesive strength at the interface. Here we explore how contact angle measurements can characterize substrate–adhesive interactions and help predict adhesion behaviour. Particular focus is placed on the application of receded contact angles and exploring the differences between wettability and adhesion. The presented work also covers how modern measurement technology can enable rapid, reliable, and practical characterization for adhesives and interfaces.
