Functional Coatings and Beyond

A seminar consisting of presentations by KRÜSS and guest speakers, hands-on lab sessions, and networking opportunities

Coatings can do much more than just beautify or protect: they can complement or even define the possible uses of a material and sometimes turn the material into a mere carrier. And the more demanding the task of the coating, the more important it is to understand its surface. To unfold the full functionality of a coating, it is also crucial to prepare the substrate to get perfect results and to optimize the coating formulation to counteract foam formation or other defects to prevent any defects.

Our two-day expert seminar is aimed at anyone involved in the development, optimization, or quality testing of coating or printing processes, and functional surfaces. Attend insightful presentations by renowned guest speakers and KRÜSS application experts. Take advantage of this opportunity to exchange experiences and network with guests from other industries and application areas.

Our seminar team

Kerstin Breckner (M.Sc.) has been working at Fraunhofer IFAM since 2017 as a project manager in the Paint/Lacquer Technology department. Here, she deals with various paint technology issues, especially from the field of functional coatings and bionically inspired surfaces. Her current research focuses on cleaning studies for the automotive industry and the development of barrier coatings for CFRPs for the aerospace industry.

Dr. Daniel Frese has a PhD in biophysical chemistry and, as head of the Applications & Science department, has more than 11 years of experience in transferring knowledge in interfacial chemistry and physics.

Dr. Andrew Mellor obtained an engineering doctorate in surface and interfacial physics/chemistry from the London Centre for Nanotechnology (UCL) and currently serves as an Application Market Manager to our worldwide customer network.

Dr. Thomas Willers is the Director of Product & Business Strategy at KRÜSS, holds a PhD in solid state physics, and has more than 12 years of experience in transferring knowledge in interfacial chemistry and physics at numerous international conferences and KRÜSS user events.

Katharina Wulz has a background in Technical Biology and Biofabrication and is now working as a Trainee in Application Market Management.
