Highlight 1: Measure the quality of pretreated and coated parts

Determine the wettability of your pretreated or coated material in no time at all using our Mobile Surface Analyzer – MSA with its Liquid Needle dosing technology.

The Liquid Needle turns the once laborious contact angle technique into an ultra-fast quality control method. The MSA uses it to measure the surface free energy (SFE), which is a perfect indicator for the wettability of the surface by aqueous or organic liquids and far more reliable than test inks. Measurements using templates and automated dosing of test liquids ensure operator-independent results, which can be automatically evaluated using predefined limits.

Our MSA analyzes samples of any size, such as automobile bodies. It provides accurate values even for vertical, overhead, and slightly convex samples. The handy instrument can also detect residues of cleaning agents and is capable of doing 1,000 material tests per cartridge charge.

Maximizing adhesion is required when laminating, coating, or blending polymers. Minimizing it is the main task when developing hydrophobic and self-cleaning materials, e.g. functional textiles. Explore the whole range from strong to very low wettability and experience our universal instrument for determining adhesion and interfacial interactions: the Drop Shape Analyzer DSA100.

From the basic unit for precise measurement of the contact angle to the fully automatic expert instrument for serial measurement of surface free energy (SFE) we have the suitable DSA100 for your special requirements. At K 2019 we will demonstrate the instrument equipped with a versatile heating module for analyzing wetting and adhesion properties of polymer melts as well as interfacial interactions between different polymers of a blend.

Highlight 3: Analyze the roughness and texture of polymers and their processing tools

 

Whether your surface must be very smooth, show a certain texture or degree of roughness, our Surface Roughness Analyzer – SRA supports you in optimizing your polymers or the tools for their processing. Contactless, quickly, and with an extremely high resolution, the SRA gives you a 3D image of your sample‘s surface and provides you with data which exactly describe its topography. Analyses with the SRA also help you evaluate the contribution of roughness to the wettability of your sample or to the adhesion of coatings.

With its small size and low weight, the SRA can be used at almost any place as a lab instrument, but is also available as a measuring head to be used for automatic processes in the production line.

  • Our Force Tensiometer – K100 covers a wide range of fully automated methods for surface and interfacial tension, which includes the wettability of fibers or fillers to predict their behavior in a polymer matrix. You will also have the opportunity to examine the instrument's high temperature module for measuring the surface and interfacial tension of liquid polymers. 

  • The tilting device for our Drop Shape Analyzer – DSA25 facilitates measurements of the roll-off behavior for the precise characterization of super-hydrophobic and self-cleaning materials.
